HIWeather Citizen Science Project
We'd like to hear about completed, current, and planned citizen science projects which relate to weather. Citizen science is a broad term, which encompasses a variety of different types of projects where the public (citizens) work with various public and private organizations, including academic researchers, to undertake scientific research. This collation of projects is similar to one completed recently in Europe (which you can find here), but looking globally and with a broad definition of "citizen science".
For our purposes, citizen science can refer to any projects involving engagement with experts, volunteers, and/or lay people to co-create and/or collect information about weather (also referred to as crowdsourcing and participatory approaches).
This project is part of the wider High Impact Weather Project (HIWeather). This 10-year research project was established in 2016 by WMO (World Meteorological Organization) WWRP (World Weather Research Programme). HIWeather is aimed at achieving dramatic improvements in the effectiveness of weather-related hazard warnings, following recent advancements in numerical weather prediction at km-scale and in disaster risk reduction.
